Education

We are committed to sharing our training, experience, and expertise with the emerging generation of Shakespeare performers and scholars. Our High School Workshops and Summer Intensives are structured around the principles that we believe are key to performing Shakespeare:

1. WORKING WITH THE TEXT - The quality of every production hinges on our actors' and directors' understanding of the text and their ability to communicate that understanding with the audience. The words come first.

2. A COMMITMENT TO ORIGINAL STAGING PRACTICES - A working knowledge of early modern history and original staging practices not only enhances our appreciation of the text, but it also clarifies the moments of tension and humor often lost in modern productions.

3. FOSTERING STRONG RELATIONSHIPS, ONSTAGE AND OFFSTAGE - Trust, respect, and kindness are the qualities we look for in our actors. The camaraderie found in a thriving company engenders spontaneity and inventiveness; an ideal environment for learning.

This year, Shakespeare in the Square has sent actors and directors to the following high schools, both private and public: St. Andrew's School, City as School, The Hewitt School (TEAK Fellowship), Professional Performing Arts High School, Xavier High School, Morris-Town Beard School, The Peck School, The Hill School, Collegiate Academy, and The Calhoun School.

If you would like SITS to visit your school, please email: shakespeareinthesquare@gmail.com, or call: (816) 805-2959
